Zzoommer Story: Sunny Malhi
Our Field Service Specialist Sunny joined Zzoomm in July of 2022. Bursting with talent and aspiration, this Zzoommer has seen himself achieve two promotions in the space of 18 months. We caught up with Sunny to learn about his time here at Zzoomm.
What is your Zzoomm Story?
I have worked in Telecoms for some time, I came across Zzoomm in the summer of 2022. I had a call with the manager at the time along with the rest of the Field Service department and we just hit it off. I was offered the position with a start meant to be a month later, but I was keen to start, so I was able to hit the ground running the following week.
The first six months in the role, I worked away in Hereford, there was not much for me to do in Cannock, so I took the opportunity to show my initiative and skill set as a Field Service Engineer.
From January 2023, there was an opportunity to progress to a Field Service Technical Expert, I put myself forward for it. I was anxious at first because it was a new aspect of the build I wasn’t familiar with but, by April I was really excelling in the role. What helped with that was my manager, Allan Fairhurst. He is brilliant! Alan fosters an environment where you can succeed, he pushes me to do better and puts me in front of the right people and tools to do my best.
In the Summer of 2023, I covered the Field Service Team Leads for three weeks. We had an inside joke in Field Service about how the number of installations in Cannock couldn’t be beaten. Well in those three weeks, I equalled the record for one installation left. I called my fellow Zzoommer Mark Holmes that I was about to beat his record, but thought it was best to share the record together.
When the time came to return to my daily role, I did miss that higher level of work and responsibility, it was something I became suited to and enjoyed the work.
When the role of Field Service Specialist came up, Alan put me forward as a candidate. That vote of confidence felt rewarding and gave me that bit of confidence to succeed.
What would you say are some of your highlights at Zzoomm?
One of my favourite days at Zzoomm was when I was installing a customer in Hereford. The customer had recently lost her husband and was caring for their child with special needs. After installation, I ensured all the devices were connected and set up the apps on her daughter’s tablet. The child was so excited to have her tablet up and running that she embraced both her mother and I in a group hug. I left that job a bit emotional but with a deep sense of purpose, understanding the impact I could have on the people we serve through our Full Fibre broadband.
Another highlight would be the fantastic team I work with. We have each other’s back and provide that additional support to one another when we need it.
I would like to give a shout-out to Mark Holmes. We’ve got a bit of a bromance going on. I have made a true friendship with Mark both in and out of work, he is a talented team player and just genuinely wants to see you succeed.
